The World is Our Stage ™

Q. DOES THE MANHASSET SPECIALTY COMPANY® SELL DIRECT?

A. No, we sell exclusively to ( through) wholesale distributors, and they are prohibited from selling at the retail level. These distributors act as our sales force. This arrangement allows us to take advantage of the distributors' additional warehousing capacity, and also provide a very expansive global network, from which dealer/retail orders can be filled and shipped.

Q. WHERE CAN I FIND A STORE TO PURCHASE MANHASSET PRODUCTS; OR WHAT CAN I DO IF I TRIED TO PURCHASE MANHASSET PRODUCTS, BUT THE STORE(S) OR MUSIC DEALER(S) I TRIED DOESN'T CARRY THEM?

A. We have a "Store Locator" section on our website. There, one can look up music stores in his/her area where "we know" music stands are sold. Unfortunately this list is by no means complete. We have only listed stores that have specifically asked to be included. We know there are countless more that offer Manhasset products. At least it is a place to start. If you experience any trouble at all, please contact us and we will be very happy to help you find locations that do carry our products.

Q. WHY DON'T YOU LIST THE PRICES OF PRODUCTS ON YOUR WEB SITE?

A. Although we can see where that would appear beneficial, omitting them was done purposely. We provide our products directly to distributors, who then sell them to music dealers and music stores at the wholesale price; the dealers and stores then sell to customers at the retail level. Because we are not involved in the retail pricing that dealers set for our products and because dealers frequently structure their prices very differently, offering their own discounts, we feel that any listing of "suggested" retail prices might unintentionally mislead retail customers as to what actual prices could be. We do suggest that it is worth "shopping around" and getting prices from a few sources. If you have any difficulty locating stores or places to shop, please let us know and we will try to assist you in finding some.

Q. WHAT IS THE WARRANTY ON MANHASSET PRODUCTS?

A. The MANHASSET SPECIALTY COMPANY® warranties it's stands and stand carts against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ten years from the original date of purchase. The MANHASSET SPECIALTY COMPANY® warranties all of its accessory products against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five-years from the original date of purchase. Q. THE PRODUCT CARTON IS VISIBLY DAMAGED, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

A. When cartons leave our facility they are in perfect condition, and Manhasset utilizes carriers that deliver our products with care. We know that our distributors and dealers do the same thing. However, we also realize that, even with best efforts, damage or loss can occur during shipping and handling.

When shipping damage occurs during shipment the carrier is responsible, so the best thing we can suggest is to inspect the entire package, outside and Inside, for signs of damage before receiving or accepting them. If the boxes and/or merchandise is damaged, refuse to accept them and request an inspection of the box by the carrier. If there is no visible damage, but the box is dented or distorted in some fashion, we strongly suggest that you make a note on the receiving paperwork; then if you do discover a problem when the merchandise is removed from the box, there is a record and there is still an opportunity to file a claim with the transportation company.

Q. I AM MISSING SOME PARTS IN MY BOX OF ? HOW CAN I GET THEM?

A. Although we strive very hard to make sure that your Manhasset product is complete when boxed, it is certainly possible that, on occasion, a part could have been omitted. If any parts are missing from the Manhasset box/container, we ask that you call us at (800) 795-0965.

Q. I SEE MANHASSET SELLS SOME COLORED MUSIC STANDS IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY COLORS; DO YOU OFFER OTHER COLORS AS WELL?

A. Yes, Manhasset is set up to very efficiently powder coat stands in a wide variety of custom colors. Although we don't sell them directly to the retail customers, we have worked very closely with our distributors and your music stores or music dealers to provide individuals and organizations with their own custom colored music stands.

The process we use involves our working directly with the person or organization so that Manhasset can make sure the color is exactly what is desired. If you are interested in getting custom colored Manhasset music stands, please ask your music store. If your music store has any questions, please don't hesitate to have them contact their Manhasset product distributor – or they can contact us directly. Our philosophy is "If you want your own unique color, we want you to have it."

Q. MY OLD MUSIC STANDS NEED TO BE REPAINTED; DO YOU OFFER PRODUCTS TO REPAINT THEM?

A. The paint that we used for many years was a very good quality baked-on enamel. Even though it was durable, after years of service, the finish could show signs of wear and could be scratched. For these older "painted" stands repainting is commonly done.

Although we do not sell touchup paint or a product to repaint our stands, there are products available for these tasks. We have found (from many music teachers) that Sherwin Williams makes a flat black paint in a spray can that appears to work as well as any that we have heard about.

In addition to following the specific instructions on the can, we suggest the stands be clean and dry (free of dust and oils) before applying the spray paint. We suggest that areas where there are deep scratches be sanded before painting the desks. Depending on the extent or depth of the scratches, it may be necessary to use coarse sandpaper first then feathering the area out with a medium grit sandpaper. Some people disassemble the stands prior to painting; other have done nothing but mask off the chrome portion of the shaft to protect it from over-spray. Since this repainting may make the stands look slightly different than those not repainted, you may want to consider touching-up all of them at once.

By the way, we should point out that for the last several years, Manhasset has been powder coating our stands – they are no longer being painted. This new finish is tremendously durable and will far outlast the paint that we previously used.

Q. IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO TO INCREASE THE WEIGHT CARRYING CAPACITY OF MY STAND?

A. The stand's Magic Finger Clutch is designed to support about 8 lbs.

If your stand is older, rather than purchasing a new shaft (which is certainly an option), or if you want to support more than the designed weight, we also have a "Shaft-Lock" product that could solve your problem. It allows you to adjust the height, and in the locked position, it will support far above the weight that the shaft itself is designed to do. It may be something you want to consider. You can view this product on our website in the New Product page.

Q. I CAN'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO TIGHTEN THE BASE TO THE SHAFT VERY SECURELY; WHAT CAN I DO?

A. Occasionally, during transit/shipping it is possible for the internal nut (located inside the shaft) to become unseated. If this occurs, it could allow the internal nut to spin when trying to remove or re-insert the bolt used to attach the base. This might prevent the bolt from being properly tightened and thus may not adequately secure the tripod base. If this loose (spinning) tapered nut condition were encountered, it may be easily remedied by doing the following:

With the shaft completely compressed, briskly tap the chromed end of the shaft on a hard floor or a hard surface. You shouldn't have to use extreme force, but it won't hurt to firmly tap it a few times to reseat the internal tapered nut. With the tapered nut reseated, you should be able to remove, reinstall and properly tighten the bolt.

We now have a demonstration video on our assembly/instructions page.

If shaft base doesn't tighten

Q. I CAN'T SEEM TO BE ABLE TO PULL OUT (EXTEND) THE CHROME PORTION OF THE SHAFT; WHAT CAN I DO?

Please know that even if this were to occur, it does not indicate the shaft is defective and necessarily unsuitable. The problem may be the result of inner-shaft lubrication not being sufficiently distributed making the inner tube harder to pull out from the shaft's retracted position

The solution in such cases is to grab the exposed end of the chrome tube with a pair of pliers (with one jaw inside and the other pliers jaw on the outside of the exposed end of the chrome tube) and carefully (to avoid scratching the chromed surface) pull it out. Once the chromed inner tube is extended to some degree it can be exercised in and out and twisted a few time by hand. This will distribute the internal lubricant and should eliminate the problem and the shaft should then function normally.

If this solution does not work, please feel free to contact Manhasset by clicking this link.
